Is GTA 6 really coming out in fall 2025? Developer Rockstar’s parent company is optimistic.
After rumors of a possible delay of GTA 6 to 2026 had been circulating throughout 2024, the parent company behind Rockstar Games is now sending a reassuring signal.
GTA 6 is still on track for a release in time for the 2025 Christmas season. This launch period was originally announced in May 2024, but has been repeatedly questioned by many fans and the press.
It’s still fall 2025
- Where does the info come from? The renewed confirmation goes back to a press release at the latest investor conference of Take-Two Interactive on November 6, 2024.
- How reliable is this statement? GTA developer Rockstar is a subsidiary of Take-Two, which is why the financial reports of the corporation are always closely followed and combed through by fans and the press for new clues – they are considered the highest authority for new information.
- What exactly does the report say?According to the report, GTA 6 is still scheduled for release in “fall of calendar year 2025”.
- Why is this likely? The fourth quarter is traditionally an extremely popular release window for manufacturers and publishers, as the Christmas season means that particularly high sales can be achieved in a short period of time.
Incidentally, it is still completely unclear whether PC gamers will also be able to enjoy GTA 6 in winter 2025.
CEO talks about postponements
Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, admitted in an interview with CNBC in May that the group’s previous releases had not always met their target release date.
In the case of GTA 6, however, he was very confident that there would be no more delays. Rumors had been circulating on Twitter for some time that GTA 6 would be delayed and not released until 2026. However, some of these statements have already been refuted, for example by renowned journalist and industry insider Jason Schreier.
Of course, there can never be a guarantee for a release. Strauss Zelnick said: In the case of such an extraordinary game, with extraordinary expectations, it’s not necessarily about [fixing bugs]. It’s about an unprecedented gaming experience, and Rockstar is striving for absolute perfection here. But perfection is difficult to measure, it is more subjective than objective.
So the reaffirmation of the release date in the fourth quarter of 2025 should be seen as a sign that Rockstar is on schedule to achieve this perfection with GTA 6.
However, the development of video games – especially of highly complex open worlds – is always a process full of obstacles and unforeseen developments. So it remains to be seen whether the deadline will ultimately be met.
