What was supposed to be a long-term partnership ended after just one year. Star player Rekkles and Karmine Corp parted ways. His ex-coach now tells what went wrong.
The former head coach of French super team Karmine Corp sparked some controversy in a Q&A. According to the report, differences of opinion and behavioural problems were the real reason why the ambitious organisation parted ways with its star botlaner Martin “Rekkles Larsson.
Yanis “Striker” Kella was head coach of Karmine Corp (KC) from June 2020 to December 2022. Now the Frenchman is in the employ of LEC newcomer BDS. With some distance from his old employer Striker revealed juicy details, about one of the most burning questions of this transfer period: What happened between KC and Rekkles ? Why did the Swede leave the team again after only one year?
Rekkles and KC? That didn’t fit
Rekkles’ former coach revealed during a livestream on Twitch that KC’s coaching team no longer wanted to work with the Swede. They had big differences of opinion, especially concerning the team strategy. He cites the recurring Yuumi pick as an example. There had always been negative reactions in the team concerning his choice of champion. A large part of the team had pushed him to play other champions than he originally wanted.
The right shotcalling had also repeatedly led to problems in the botlane, Striker reveals further. When these instances occurred, the team stumbled, he said. “I tried to combat the negativity in the team, which worked well in the spring split. Then the summer did not go as expected for us,” he explains.
Star airs: “I pay your salary “
An equally crucial point of contention had been Rekkles‘ behaviour. The star ADC would behave in a “problematic” manner. The former head coach brought his misbehaviour to the Swede’s attention, but said the coaching team had not been fully able to improve his behaviour. “If you bench him, you can’t sell him decently in the next transfer window because everyone will assume he will cause problems. There was no perfect solution for this year or the offseason,” laments Striker.
When questioned by fans, the coach replied that Rekkles would disrespect staff by saying things such as “I pay your salary”. This had happened at moments when he refused to play scrims or attend team-building events. He had once cancelled a dinner with the team because “his taxi wasn’t ready for him when he left the airport. “
Failure to motivate came on top of that, which would have been one reason why he didn’t manage much in the summer split.
Rekkles and Karmine Corp were yet to comment on the statements. The French organisation is still keeping its new roster a secret a few days before the start of the season. Only Lucas “Cabochard” Simon-Meslet and Lucas “Saken” Fayard seem to be confirmed as players.
