“Crappy contract” – LoL star player reports big switching mistake

Rekkles is one of the top players in League of Legends. The Swede regrets his switch from Fnatic to G2 Esports. However, a return to his old place of work is in the offing.

Martin “Rekkles” Larsson is one of the few European LoL pros who are not only among the best of the best. The Swedish star is also one of the crowd pullers in LoL esports. While a comeback at Fnatic is in the offing, Rekkles talks about his “mistakes” at the time – the switch from Fnatic to G2 Esports.

It has been over a year since Rekkles last played in the LEC. It was a disappointing end with G2 Esports in the 2021 Summer Split, missing out on qualification for Worlds. Despite the advance praise, the togetherness between the AD Carry and the LEC record winner went anything but smoothly. “It was a mistake,” Rekkles said in an explainer video last Sunday.

“I didn”t have a manager and that”s why I signed a shitty contract,” Rekkles says of his move to G2 Esports, which he regrets. Although he wanted to fight for his place in the team, the management around the now resigned CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez clearly declined.

Not a dime as a benchwarmer

Furthermore, Rekkles was not allowed to move to another LEC team. The transfer fee was ultimately set too high by G2, which no team paid. “If I had opted for a place on the bench, I would not have received any money at all,” Rekkles continued. “The contract I signed was absolutely shit. With leaving Fnatic, that was one of the mistakes I made. “

According to Rekkles, the transfer fees for player transfers in the LEC have also become too expensive. “The organisations are not managing the money back. We have reached a point where it is getting out of control – for everyone,” said the 26-year-old professional, who, however, did not give any concrete figures. Well-known are mega-transfers like that of Luka “Perkz” Perković, when Cloud9 paid a rumoured five million US dollars to G2 Esports.

Return to Fnatic looms

Rekkles moved to top French team Karmine Corp in the regional professional league LFL in early 2022. Here, too, good money had to be paid to buy the LoL star out of his G2 contract. At least things were much more successful from a sporting point of view, because Rekkles and his team won the European Masters in the spring split – the small version of the LEC, so to speak.

His contract with Karmine Corp still has one year to run, which is why a return to an LEC team is also likely to be expensive. But according to media reports, Fnatic could bring the star back. “LEC Wooloo” reported on Tuesday that Rekkles is set to become part of Fnatic again as an AD carry.

Rekkles himself wrote via Twitter on the same day, “I”m back.” Meanwhile, an official announcement has yet to be made. If the Swedish star does indeed return to play for Fnatic, he would have to make way for top German pro Elias “Upset” Lipp, who was active with Fnatic at LoL Worlds 2022 just a few weeks ago. Rekkles already played for the organisation from May 2015 to November 2020. With them, he won the LEC title four times and reached the LoL Worlds final in 2018.
