In the LEC Summer Finals, G2 Esports has to admit defeat to rival Rogue. At the Worlds 2022, things don’t look good in terms of group opponents because of this.
In the Summer Finals of the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) on Sunday, G2 Esports and Rogue played for the most important European LoL title. However, the Spring winner had to admit defeat. This means that the subsequent group draw for the 2022 Worlds is not a dream scenario for the LEC record winner.
Even before the big Summer Finals, Rogue managed to beat Fnatic 3-1 on Saturday. Following that G2 Esports lost 3-0 to the underdog in the LEC Finals. Both teams qualified directly for the group stage of Worlds 2022 in the LEC Summer Split. Still, it doesn’t look as even for G2 Esports there as it does for Rogue, as the team will face some strong opponents early on.
G2 Esports has landed in Group B together with JD Gaming and DWG KIA. Both teams from Korea and China are among the best ever. The third group opponent will be determined beforehand in the playoffs.
With DWG KIA, G2 Esports will face the World Champion 2020 and the runner-up of the Worlds 2021. JD Gaming reached the quarter-finals two years ago and showed its best side in the Summer Split 2022. In the playoffs final, they managed a thrilling 3:2 victory against Top Esports. Because of these two top-class players, G2 Esports could already find the start of the 2022 Worlds quite difficult.
There are a total of four different groups at the 2022 League of Legends Worlds, which will be held in North America.
