Rekkles is leaving G2

Rumours say that famous ADC player “Rekkles” is leaving the G2 organisation. The League of Legends star had only joined the team at the end of 2020.

According to Pablo Suárez, a journalist from Dot Esports, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson is leaving the G2 team. Even though his contract wouldn’t originally expire until 2023, it seems the organisation is in the process of selling the famous ADC.

In recent weeks, there have also been repeated rumours that G2 is holding some try-outs with various ADCs. Among others, this allegedly involved star ADC “Carrzy” from MAD Lions. However, no replacement for Rekkles has been officially announced yet.

Internal problems as trigger?

It wasn’t until the start of Season 2021 that Rekkles moved to G2 Esports, leaving Fnatic. This raised the expectations for G2, who usually perform very well. However, the team did not make it to the Mid-Season Invitational, nor did they qualify for Worlds. This must have been a hard setback for Rekkles as his only intention in switching teams was to win the Worlds title.

However, one reason for the sale of Rekkles is said to be problems within the team. Allegedly, the players Marcin “Jankos” Kankowski and Rasmus “Caps” Winther no longer want to play together with the ADC. Whether this is due to personal differences or different playing styles is not yet known.

Allegedly, he was also asked to draw the groups of the Worlds 2021, but cancelled at short notice. Instead, his teammate “Jankos”, the jungler from G2, took over.

What happens to Rekkles?

It was already clear to many that G2 will make some changes to the team members after the season went so poorly. Players Martin “Wunder” Hansen, Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle and coach Fabian “Grabbz” Lohmann are also rumoured to be replaced. According to Pablo, Team Vitality is said to have already shown interest in Rekkles, but G2 do not seem to be talking to the European organisations yet.

There is speculation that G2 owner Carlos Santiago does not want to sell star players to European teams so that his roster does not have to compete against them. This is also said to have been the case with mid-laner Luka “Perkz” Perkovic, who was sold to an LCS team. Although these rumours are not confirmed, such a move can be expected with Rekkles as well.
