The LEC goes into the next round. The Summer Split and the best European teams compete for a spot at the Worlds.

The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) goes into the next round. The Summer Split starts on Friday and there the ten strongest European teams will compete. The best three teams of the competition will move on to the Worlds.

LEC venue

The Summer Split of the LEC will take place in Berlin as usual. However, there is one change compared to the Spring Split. This time the tournament will take place completely offline again. In the Spring Split, a live audience was only on site in Berlin for the final. In the Summer Split, spectators could possibly be admitted earlier.

However, Riot Games is keeping a low profile on this so far. In the last Spring Split, G2 Esports prevailed against the European competition. However, the team had some difficulties at the beginning of the playoffs and ended up in the lower bracket after the first match. In the end, they were able to fight back with a perfect 12-0 run and take the victory in the Spring Split.

These teams are in the game

Slots at the LEC are limited to ten teams. G2 Esports is currently the clear favourite for the SummerSplit title. The roster was already in good shape at MSI 2022, where it ended T1’s winning streak. Later, however, T1 returned the favour by defeating G2 in the semi-finals of the mega-event.

  • Fnatic
  • G2 Esports
  • MAD Lions
  • Misfits Gaming
  • Rogue
  • SK Gaming
  • Team BDS
  • Team Vitality

Besides G2 Esports, there are other candidates for a top placement in the Summer Split: Rogue made it to the final at the Spring Split, where they lost to G2. In 2021, the MAD Lions won the last Summer Split. This qualified the team alongside Fnatic and Rogue for the Worlds last year. However, Fnatic and Rogue were eliminated in the group stage. Only the MAD Lions made it to the Knockout Stage, but were defeated by DWG KIA in their first match.

Three teams are going to the Worlds

There will be prize money worth a total of €200,000 at this year’s LEC Summer Split 2022. The winner will receive a sum of 80,000 euros in addition to the trophy. In addition, the top three teams will qualify for the World Championship 2022, where the best of the best will compete in League of Legends. The mega-event will take place this year in Mexico, the USA and Canada.

How the Mega Event Works

The group phase of the LEC Summer Split starts on 17 June. The opening match will be between Team Vitality and the MAD Lions. In the Summer Split, each team will play a total of 18 matches, all of which will be best-of-one. The top six teams will advance to the playoffs.

In the Summer Split playoffs, the teams will compete in best-of-five matches. The losers still have a chance to make a comeback in the lower bracket, as was the case with G2 Esports in the Spring Split. In the final of the Summer Split, the winner of the LEC will be crowned.
