Riot has announced some new features and changes in League of Legends 2023. What you can expect, we have summarized for you

At the start of the new year, Riot has also announced new information about what League of Legends players can expect in the coming months. Among other things, the Ranked System has been revised, there will be new champions, new skins, even for long-neglected characters and many older champions will be updated.

One year, two ranked splits

While you”ve only had a few months to level up or rank up in Fortnite, Valorant and other big competitive games for years now, you”ve had almost a full year to rank up in League of Legends. That is about to change. The Ranked Year 2023 is split into two parts! This means you have to play twice to climb the rankings.

The two splits are mainly to ensure that there are fewer smurfs, as most people concentrate on the rank of their main account first. If they have less time to play up, they also have less time to smurf. In addition, League should be more adapted to modern esports through the shorter seasons.

In addition, there will be a separate reward system for Ranked Games, where you can earn different emotes and the like per split. There will also be a special skin at the end of each split that all players who have completed enough games will receive. So the rank is no longer the main factor to get rewards, but the time invested.

More Champion Diversity

Riot”s champion pool will expand again this year and should eventually include as many different champions as possible that players can identify with. The next new supporter, Milio, is supposed to provide more representation, but more details are not yet known. The champion from Ixtal is supposed to be able to control fire and heal, but unfortunately there are no pictures of him yet.

Another champion about whom more is already known is Naafiri, a mid-lane assassin. Just like Aatrox or Varus, she will belong to the gloomy ones and will be made for players who want to “focus on hunting”. She is also expected to be the only shirtless champion released this year and have multiple forms.

A jungler and another mid-laner are also expected to be released later in the year, and one of the new champions will likely be a monster again.

Skins, skins, skins

To keep League of Legends monetarily rewarding for Riot, there will again be many new skins in 2023. Among them are skins for Kled, Kalista, Ivern and Aurelion Sol, for which the community has been asking for new skins for quite some time now.

In celebration of Chinese New Year, limited time skins for Ashe, Malphite, Qiyana, Kha`Zix and Tresh are once again coming to the Riot Shop, continuing the Moon Emperor and Mod Guardian skin series. There are also new Saga Creator skins for Irelia, Galio, Garen, Sivir and Zyra and a Prestige Porcelain skin for Lissandra. An all-new skin series called Fairy Realms, due in 2023, revolves around the world of fairies and will include new skins for both Kalista and Karma. In addition, the popular cat and dog skin series will be joined by Kled and Veigar.

Make new from old

2023 many older champions are also to be updated. The first to get a visual update is Ahri, but her abilities will not change. Aurelion Sol, on the other hand, will receive a gameplay rework, as he is hardly played despite his popular visuals. In addition, a complete update for Skarner will follow later this year, who will be reworked both visually and gameplay-wise.

In addition, there will be mid-scope updates, which are intended to refresh a champion approximately every two months. However, the aim is not to solve existing problems, but to make champions more modern and to optimise their abilities. The first mid-scope update will come with patch 13.1 for Jax. Another candidate for an upcoming mid-scope update is Neeko, who is supposed to transform not only into champions but also into items in the future.

Since last year it was mainly the events that were criticised, additional attention is also being paid to upcoming events and a separate team has even been founded to take care of new maps and events in the future. More precise details were not yet available, however.
