The new League of Legends champion comes from Shurima and will be a toplaner. Riot producer “Reav3” gives us an insight into the origins and history of K’Sante.

The new League of Legends champion will be a top-lane tank, according to Riot Games lead producer Ryan “Reav3” Mireles. He made the announcement in a YouTube video, which previews future champions and the 2023 pre-season.

When is K’Sante coming out?

There is no exact release date for the new champion yet. In the video, the producer mentions that the champion will be released “later this year”. So we can assume that K’Sante will probably be released at the end of 2022 as part of the pre-season for the new 2023 season.

What is the champion concept of K’Sante?

According to Reav3, K’Sante fights with weapons he made from the armour of his greatest defeated opponent to date. These are blunt defensive weapons, but they can be broken off at any time and thus quickly change into sharp blades. These special weapons are called “Ntofos” and are characterised by their versatility and flexibility.

What the new champion from Shurima will look like is not yet known. Riot Games has also not yet shared any more detailed gameplay insights with us.

What do we know about the backstory of K’Sante?

K’Sante comes from the city of Nazumah in Shurima. The people of Nazumah prevailed in battle against dangerous monsters in the desert of Shurima, establishing their community at the only water source far and wide.

Unlike the rest of Shurima, however, this city is not subservient to the Emperor of the Sands, Azir. K’Sante leads the fighters of Nazumah in battle against the dangers of the desert and, according to Riot producer Reav3, has personally taken down one of the most dangerous desert monsters ever. From the regenerating armour of this monster he made his Ntofos, with which he has been defending the city ever since.

How does the LoL community react to the announcement?

Although it still seems relatively quiet about K’Sante, there are already some theories about what the new top laner’s abilities might look like. On (Reddit) there is, among other things, the theory that Riot Games has based his design heavily on the game Monster Hunter.

Furthermore, it is noticeable that K’Sante has an apostrophe in its name. Until now, this was always a sign that a champion came from the void (e.g.: Vel’Koz, Kha’Zix, Bel’Veth). Some League of Legends fans have noticed this and are busy thinking and discussing what exactly this deviation could mean
