Riot Games has announced the changes for the next League of Legends Season. Item changes, better communication and Jungle updates are on the cards.
Every year, a whole host of changes and updates await the gaming community during the Preseason in LoL. The World Championship is currently the highlight of the eSports year and will end in the final on 5 November. Shortly after that, things will continue and the game will receive some updates with Season 13.
The kick-off of the World Cup group stage has just started – so even before the Worlds go into the knockout phase, Riot gives an insight into the changes for Preseason 2023.
The most important changes at a glance
There will be a few things in the jungle that will be redesigned for the preseason. Especially beginners will benefit from it, because broken down it can be said: It will be easier to be a Jungler on the road. Riot last tweaked the jungle in Season 11, the current adjustments will focus on items and small companion animals.

Companion? This is really an exciting innovation, because little helpers have not existed before. One after the other: Jungle companions will replace classic jungle items. There are three different types, namely the Ixtali Ixamander, the Noxian Ember Cat and the Ionian Cloudjumper.
These can be developed with goodies throughout the game – and goodies are obtained by players defeating champions or monsters. The companions in turn help to strengthen abilities, because the bigger they become, the more improvements one’s own champion receives.
On top of that, new items will also be introduced. How the mythical items named Icathian Endurance, Radiant Virtue or Goliath’s Rise will fit into the meta remains to be seen, however.
However, the changes to the ping wheel and the associated communication options are already positive. Not only will there be new vision pings that can be used to announce where the enemy team has placed vision items on the one hand and where your own team still needs vision items on the other – the off-screen pings will also no longer only be displayed on the mini-map, but will be placed clearly visible on the screen. This will give the team better options for collusion.
