Jak’sho hasn’t been in League of Legends long and is already enjoying a lot of popularity, partly due to the secrets surrounding the item.
In late 2022, Riot introduced a new tank item called Jak’sho, the Protean, and as the name implies, it is not directly an item, but a living armour. This background has caused the community to come up with numerous theories as to whether there is not more behind the item. An Easter Egg in the game now seems to confirm this.
What or who is Jak’Sho?
The mystical item Jak’sho was released with patch 12.22 on 16 November 2022 and received its first hotfix the very next day. Since then it has been adjusted again and again, but it is still considered one of the strongest items in the game. For 3200 gold, the living armour gives you 400 life, 30 armour, 30 magic resistance and 20 ability speed. However, the most interesting item is the Protean’s passive.
While in combat, the item gains increases over time, giving the wearer armour and magic resistance. At maximum increase, you deal magic damage to surrounding enemies, heal yourself, and gain additional resistances.
The description of the item itself says the following:
In the course of a battle, become an invincible monster
But do you really become a monster yourself or is it much more likely that Jak’Sho is the monster?
Jak’Sho kills players
If you win a game with Jak’sho, this message may appear in the chat.
Jak’sho deems you worthy and absorbs your power
Should you read this, you are condemned to death and your champion dies.
Because this happens after you win, this death has no effect on your KDA, so it seems to be just an Easter Egg.
How to become worthy?
Since the first players discovered the message in the chat, theories have been put forward on how to become worthy. Zero deaths or a high champion rank have already been ruled out, as players who do not meet any of these requirements have already been deemed worthy. Currently, most players assume that it could be related to the amount of damage caused or the bounty, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
More than just an Easter Egg
Because of the background story of the item, many suspect a deeper meaning in the death animation. Among other things, some Reddit users assume that Jak’Sho will eventually become a sinister Void Champion when he has absorbed enough worthy players.

Others suspect a reference to an upcoming Void Event, which has been teased repeatedly in other stories. In addition, many associate the item with Kai’Sa’s armour or Cho’Gath, who also absorb the power of others, or interpret Jak’sho as a dark one who, like Aatrox or Varus, has been bound into a weapon or, in this case, into armour.
