An almost unbelievable leak currently has the CoD community in awe and surprise in equal measure.
What do the football players Messi, Neymar and Pogba have in common? Of course, they are all exceptional talents on the football pitch, score goals almost effortlessly and can be played in FIFA 23. For their next shots, however, they don’t need an instep and a full-stretch, but rather an AK47 and an MP5.
Football goes Call of Duty
News that is one thing above all – surprising. As the well-known CoD leaker TheGhostOfHope revealed on Twitter, the football players Messi, Neymar and Pogba are to get their own operators in Modern Warfare II. Six-time world footballer Lionel Messi and his two colleagues Neymar and Pogba, along with six more operators are set to be released over the next few months.

Activision has used well-known franchises or faces to promote their games in the past. Celebrities such as Pete Davidson, Nicki Minaj or actor Gary Oldman, who has already made several appearances as the voice of various characters in Call of Duty, appeared as well as the heroes from Rambo or Die Hard.
Of course, in the end it’s always just about taking the Call of Duty brand to new target groups. A collaboration with three of the most famous football players in the world would therefore only be logical, even if one rightly has to ask what Messi in particular should have to do with the Call of Duty franchise.
Call of Duty footballers
Those who hang out on Twitch from time to time may have spotted Brazilian Neymar streaming a few times already. The 30-year-old, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, is no stranger to the game and, much like Mesut Özil, likes to play a game after football practice.
Frenchman Paul Pogba has also already gained experience with Call of Duty and likes to play a game of Vanguard in his spare time. Lionel Messi, however, is not easily associated with Call of Duty. Even though the Argentinean, like many footballers, likes to play a game of FIFA against his teammates, he is otherwise not known for investing a lot of time in gaming.
It remains to be seen whether we will see more famous football players or sports icons in Call of Duty in the future. A Cristiano Ronaldo or Usain Bolt in Modern Warfare II would be a fun change of pace, wouldn’t it?
