Server full in New World? Here’s how you can soon switch worlds for free to play together with your friends.
Update Oct 9, 2021: Amazon’s plan to make the free character transfers available this weekend is wobbling. As the developers now announced on Twitter, there were some unwanted problems when testing the feature:
‘During our testing, we uncovered a few instances where the character transfer does not meet our standards for release.
NWSTATUS UPDATE] During our testing we uncovered some edge cases where the transfer experience does not meet our standards for release.
In the meantime, please read up in the link for how character transfers will work once it is ready to go live. https://t.co/3ScS3bhZxD

The developers did not announce when the character transfers will be available. We will keep you updated.
Original message: MMOs are mainly there to be played together with friends. All the more annoying that the completely overcrowded servers of New World currently make it impossible to choose your favourite server. Only a few of the currently available German servers even allow new characters. But there is to be a remedy.
The developers promise a free character transfer. This means: You can choose a server now that will accept you without a queue in order to be able to play at all, and later move with your character to another server for free in order to join your friends in the same world. We have summarised all known information about the server change for you in a clear overview.
When will the free character transfer be available?
The character transfer was announced on 1 October 2021 via Twitter There, the developers promised that the feature was a “top priority” for them and they plan to make it live next week. Accordingly, the free character transfer should ideally be available by 10 October.
With the current patch 1.0.1 the button “Change World” has already made it to the main menu and “World Transfer” to the shop. However, the function has not yet been activated. In the patch notes, the developers say:
We have laid the groundwork for the upcoming character transfer service and implemented it in-game, so you may already see elements of our preparations in the in-game shop. We are continuing to finalise this feature and will give you more information on how it works later this week (when we are ready to release the feature).
Does it matter which world set you have selected?
According to the developers, you can also change servers regardless of the world set you have chosen. So you don’t have to pay attention to which server you choose, but can simply play on one that still allows new players.
In addition to the server names and the server region, the servers also have a world set – for example, Vanaheim Nu and Vanaheim Rho. These world sets are intended to merge some servers of the same world set later on. At the moment, many more servers are live than originally planned in order to get the long queues under control. When the player numbers have settled down, some of them will probably no longer be needed and less busy servers will be merged into one.
Can you also change the region?
There was some confusion as to whether the character transfer also works between regions – i.e. whether you can switch from the EU to a US server, for example. According to a forum reply from a support staff member, you can play in any region, but you have to create a new character to do so. The change will not work between regions
How many server changes per character are possible
We checked with Amazon to see how many times you can have your character moved for free and if the offer applies to all your available characters. Also, whether there will be other possibilities to change the server for a fee later on. As soon as we have received an answer, we will add this information for you.
