For the first time, you can now play a game from developer Blizzard on Steam – but the release is nothing less than a complete disaster.

It was supposed to be a triumphant moment for Blizzard: With Overwatch 2 the first time a game from the American developer has made the jump from the in-house Battle.net launcher to Steam.

But the debut is shaping up to be a disaster right now – and Overwatch 2 is already among Steam users’ lowest-rated games

Overwatch 2 drowns in negative reviews

In recent weeks, Blizzard had properly stirred the promotional drum for the Steam release of its shooter. Among other things, wrestler John Cena was hired for a trailer and many major streamers on Twitch and YouTube paid to unpack the game after the problematic Free2Play conversion times

You can see the trailer featuring John You Can’t See Me Cena here:

However, all this did not help: Although the (current player numbers) of around 70,000 players at the same time at the peak can be seen, the title is not particularly well received on Steam.

Of the over 36,000 ratings, only 12 percent are currently positive, and the trend is downward. Currently, the shooter would stand on the second place of the worst rated games according to Steam rating and makes the strategy full disaster Superpower 3 neat competition.

The reason for this, however, is not that Overwatch 2 is a consistently bad game. Rather, many fans are angry about how the title was treated by its developers:

  • In Overwatch 1 all heroes were free, in Overwatch 2 you have to invest real money or a lot of time to unlock new characters.
  • Overwatch 1 had free lootboxes through which you could regularly get legendary skins. Overwatch 2 now relies on a paid Battle Pass and overpriced skins in the in-game store.
  • Overwatch 2 was originally supposed to get a big PvE mode, with leveling, new skills and co-op missions. However, this was scrapped after internal restructuring at Blizzard.
  • The promised PvE content has now been released in a much slimmed-down form as DLC for 15 euros – but instead of a big new mode, it’s just co-op maps, some of which were already available for free in Overwatch 1.

Not only the number of negative reviews should currently cause Blizzard a bellyache, but also the (harsh tone of players in their Steam reviews), where the game is considered  grislypredatorydisrespectful and absolute filth .

Also, many players use the review feature to recommend similar multiplayer team shooters such as Team Fortress 2 and Paladins to interested players.

Blizzard now faces the mammoth task of winning back the trust of disappointed players. However, the chances of this are conceivably bad.
