Selected Blizzard Entertainment titles are to be available on Steam in the future. Starting with Overwatch 2.
As announced in a press release, Blizzard games will be available on Steam in the future. The first game will be the team-based first-person shooter Overwatch 2 on 10 August.
Breaking down the Barriers
With Battle.net, the game developer does have its own launcher that has been around for over 20 years, but it has severely limited accessibility for gamers (on PC). Ubisoft, EA and Rockstar have similar models with their own launcher. With the cooperation on Steam, it is hoped to break down barriers that prevent access to the games. While this news will please many fans, for Battle.net users it does not mean that the Battle.net launcher will be scrapped, but will remain an integral part of the games.
“A perfect debut “
With the release of the Overwatch 2 event “Invasion”, the appearance on Valve’s gaming platform is said to be a “great” chance for new players to have their first experience with the world of Overwatch 2. A Battle.net account will still be necessary, as the Steam launcher, like PSN and Xbox Live, connects to the Battle.net servers for cross-play and other features.
