In October, Overwatch will disappear forever and be replaced by its successor. But what happens to your skins and credits? We have all the answers.

On October 4, 2022, Overwatch will disappear forever and be completely replaced by its successor, Overwatch 2 – even more drastic than Blizzard has already done with Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 3: Reforged.

But what actually happens to your earned rewards from Overwatch 1? How the relocation of lootboxes, credits, skins and co. is supposed to work, the developers recently clarified in a Q&A session on (Reddit)

This is what happens to your lootboxes, credits & Co.

On Wednesday, 22 June 2022, several developers from the Overwatch team answered questions from the community. In particular, the upcoming conversion of all current Overwatch accounts to the successor system met with great interest.

What happens to the lootboxes and skins?

Players and gamers who still have a whole bunch of unopened loot boxes need not fear: The developers of Overwatch 2 have confirmed that all content from these crates will be automatically opened and transferred.

This is to happen as there will simply be no more loot boxes in Overwatch 2, Commercial Lead Jon Spector revealed:

We will not be introducing loot boxes in Overwatch 2. Before launch, all unopened loot boxes will be automatically opened and your account will receive all of the contents directly“.

If you still have unopened loot boxes from seasonal events, you will also receive the corresponding rewards. This is because the loot contained in the box is already determined when you receive it.

Ultimately, this means that all skins from Overwatch will also be carried over into the second part. For the new heroes like the Junker Queen, however, you will have to earn all the skins first:

What happens to the credits and other currencies?

All currencies of the first part are completely transferred to the successor. These include:

  • Credits
  • OWL tokens
  • Competetive Points

The developers also clarified that the already existing credits in the sequel can only be used for very specific purposes and do not necessarily have the same value as the brand new main currency that will be introduced with Overwatch 2.

So we can”t tell you whether or not you should pile your credits and tokens on now rather than after the transfer.
