The viral hit social deduction game Among Us has launched its VR version which adds a fresh twist to many of the game’s systems.

The wildly popular social deduction game Among Us has released its VR adaptation which faithfully recreates everything that players love about the game within an immersive first-person setting. Thanks to the nature of VR controls and how they’ve been translated from the original, Among Us VR is already considered one of the strongest VR adaptations in recent memory.

InnerSloth’s Among Us is one of the pioneering titles in the social deduction game category that achieved massive popularity due to its unique approach to cooperative multiplayer. Depending on the map, four to ten players must try to complete various tasks in order to repair a damaged spaceship while a number of imposter players attempt to fit in with the crowd and murder the crew. Imposters may try to pit the crew against each other by sewing distrust and sabotaging the ship, which leads to tense social gameplay and hilarious situations where clever imposters manage to pin the blame on innocent players.

The Among Us VR adaptation has just been released and is receiving high praise from gamers and critics thanks to the way it successfully brings Among Us’ trademark gameplay into the VR format. Among Us VR has a variety of VR-exclusive features that make the experience unique such as the new proximity voice chat and engaging VR minigames that make completing tasks around the map much more involved. The proximity voice chat is an especially interesting feature, as it allows the crew to become truly involved in the deduction process and gives particularly manipulative imposters a chance to refine their acting skills.

At present, the content in the VR game is lacking some of the additions that have been brought to the original over time, such as the various extra maps in Among Us. Among Us VR currently only features The Skeld map and very few cosmetic choices compared to other versions of the game. However, the list of maps and cosmetics for the VR version can certainly be expected to grow over time, and it’ll be interesting to see how the game’s other locations like The Airship and its unique tasks translate to VR.

The game is cross-platform across all VR platforms and headsets, so players can safely purchase the game through the Oculus Quest Store, the PlayStation Store, or Steam without worrying about the matchmaking population. As expected, Among Us VR features some optional comfort settings such as snap turning and blinders to reduce motion sickness in some players, and voice chat can be substituted for quick text chat for those that can’t or don’t wish to speak.

Among Us VR is available for Meta Quest 2, PS VR, and SteamVR.
