Deston – this is the name of the new large and urban map of PUBG. The update is due to be released in just a few days.

Over a year after the announcement, the time has come: The biggest new map for PUBG to date, according to the developers, is waiting in the wings. Deston, as it is officially called, is similar to Erangel and Miramar in that it is 8×8 kilometres in size – but also much more densely built-up and is intended to be visually and playfully diverse.

Shortly before the release on 13 July, the developers have now presented Deston in detail and revealed further details about the biggest update in 2022.

All info on the new map Deston

Deston is at heart a kind of very large further development of the smallest map Haven. For on the new map, the focus is primarily on battles in urban areas, although the mega-city of Ripton with its skyscrapers and other buildings is only one of several options.

Away from the big city, the new 8×8 map also features smaller villages, harbour areas, as well as mountains and a large swamp area in the north. Thanks to the many mangrove trees, however, the battles here are more likely to take place at close range, while snipers should prefer other environments. But see for yourself how the map is divided up:

With Deston, the developers are also adding new features that will only be available on this map. For one thing, there is the so-called ascending rope, which is attached to various large buildings and ensures that you get directly to the top. But you won”t be trapped up there, because in Deston you”ll receive a permanent parachute that you can ignite at any time and that won”t get lost.

You can even combine both the ascension rope and the new parachute to catapult yourself into the air. This is somewhat reminiscent of Dying Light 2 or, more abstractly, Batman: Arkham Knight, where you could also shoot yourself up to certain heights with the superhero to get from A to B faster.

Also new on Deston are functioning petrol stations where you can fill up your vehicles. However, you should neither smoke nor shoot in the vicinity, because otherwise a devastating explosion will naturally follow.

PUBG creator Brendan Greene is also currently working on a new world. More specifically, a new open world that is set to be truly gigantic. You can find out more about it here:

More weapons & more tactical elements

Deston, however, is not the only new feature that the upcoming major update will bring. Instead, there are two new weapons, which are of course best suited for battles at quite close range:

  • Origin 12: Automatic shotgun that shoots very fast when needed, but has a lot of recoil accordingly.
  • MP9: Classic submachine gun that is fast and efficient, but already loses accuracy at medium distances

(Deston is big and also offers some skyscrapers luckily you now permanently have a parachute with you to avoid falling to your death all the time).

Also new is the Blue Chip Detector, which joins the other tactical armour items like the drone or the telescope. The Blue Chip Detector works a bit like the Heartbeat Sensor in Warzone: you activate it and see on the device if there are enemies in your immediate vicinity. However, the chip does not reflect real-time data and does not reveal the vertical position of your enemy.

As with the other tactical equipment, you will have to sacrifice one of your primary weapon slots for the Blue Chip Detector. It is also currently unknown whether the chip will also be available on the other maps.
