Problem in Ranked – Pokimane

The famous Twitch streamer Pokimane complains about the misbehaviour of VALORANT players in Ranked mode. That’s why she wants to use voice chat as rarely as possible, even though it’s necessary especially with her Main Sova.

Imane “Pokimane” Anys is a passionate VALORANT player. But her aspirations to rise to the Immortal rank seem to be fraught with unforeseen hurdles.

“My biggest problem is that I don’t like to talk in-game,” Pokimane let slip in her tweet last Friday, justifying it by saying, “People get weird with me because I’m a girl.” For this reason, Pokimane is looking for suitable partners who can support her in VALORANT. In addition, the streamer wants to try her hand at agents who are suitable for solo matches and less dependent on communication.

Pokimane mainly plays the archer Sova. However, their main agent is predestined to pass on information about the positions of opponents due to his reconnaissance skills. Accordingly, Sova’s players are required to pass on the news they have gathered as quickly as possible.

In the case of Pokimane, this seems to prove difficult because male teammates in particular are not supposed to cooperate correctly with her as a female teammate, as she lets it be known in her tweet. In VALORANT in particular, precise as well as quick consultation can make the difference between victory and defeat. Pokimane thus sees herself at a disadvantage.

In VALORANT and other video games, prejudice and even cases of harassment against women have been documented several times. In June, streamer “Sydney” reported her negative experience with male teammates in the tactical shooter. “I was made hostage and yelled at to go back to the kitchen and why I would even play,” she wrote, among other things. Publisher Riot Games has been aware of the problem for some time and has been working specifically on women’s empowerment programmes.
