Riot Games announces changes to the gameplay system starting with the 2023 season in VALORANT. The developer plans a restructured league and special talent promotion.
Riot Games announced a restructuring of the competitive VALORANT on Thursday. The changes are set to take effect from the 2023 season and will see revisions to the league system and talent development.
Riot is planning three international leagues in Asia, Europe and the Americas. From these, teams will qualify for global events such as Masters and Champions. The leagues are planned as LANs with a live audience, but this will continue to be done under the protection of the health and safety of all participants.
Riot selects teams
Riot selects the teams in the leagues in an application process, which then enter into a partnership. Teams would not have to shop around, as is the case in Riot’s League of Legends title, for example. The VALORANT partner teams are supposed to share in the revenues and be able to incorporate their own marketing.

In addition to the international leagues, national competitions will continue to be hosted, similar to the current VALORANT regional leagues. Further details on the modes, including their formats or the countries included, are yet to be announced by Riot Games.
For VALORANT talents, there will also be the possibility to draw attention to themselves in a specific mode in the client from 2023 onwards. This is intended to pave the way to professionalism. The top junior teams will thus be able to advance to the national leagues.
