At the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Masters, the first-ever clash between G2 Esports and the Sentinels delivered top crowds.

The VCT Stage 3 Masters in Berlin has been underway since Saturday and the best VALORANT teams in the world are facing off at the event. So for fans of the shooter from Riot Games, watching is almost a must, but on Sunday the viewer numbers went through the roof even more than expected.

The highest VCT viewership achieved on Sunday was over 808,000, according to tracking site Esports Charts, an outstanding figure for VALORANT esports.

G2-Banter draws viewers

The reason: With Europe’s G2 Esports and the Sentinels from North America, who are considered the best team in the world, two giants met. In the run-up to the match, G2 and owner Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez in particular had made an effort to hype the match with a lot of content on social media.

Among other things, G2 Esports had a plane take off in the lead up to the match with the words “Fuck Sentinels” trailing behind it. In another video, ocelote himself gave a supposed tour of Berlin, during which he repeatedly took funny side swipes at the US organisation.

This Wednesday at 6pm, the rematch of the two rivals in the group stage will take place.

In terms of viewership, Riot Games probably wouldn’t mind if the teams met again in the playoffs. Both G2 and the Sentinels are already qualified for the knockout round, which starts on Friday.
