In an interview, Valorant’s anti-cheat lead, Phillip Koskinas, talks about his work at Vanguard.

What does the anti-cheat department at Valorant actually take care of and who works there? Anti-cheat lead Phillip Koskinas answered these and many other interesting questions in an interview with Agent’s Range.

Besides financial decisions, a few ban decisions still land on Koskinas’ desk today. He came to Riot’s attention back then through specially written cheats for League of Legends. “At that time it was simply out of personal interest because I was always bad at video games. I can’t aim either, I never could. So I cheated a lot to keep up with my friends. Riot Games contacted me and hired me.”

“An office full of former cheaters “

The fact that video game developers often hire actual cheaters is no longer a secret. They understand the programmes behind them and can thus also work most effectively on ways against them. At Vanguard, however, the entire department is probably made up of former cheaters.

“The whole anti-cheat team is actually basically made up of ex-cheaters,” Koskinas said. “Everyone has cheated before – and you have to have done that in some way to understand everything.”

Towards the end of the interview, however, the head of the department again points out that cheating will somehow always be part of it. ” will always be able to use cheating software to machine read the screen or simulate input. But we make sure that it’s not profitable for anyone. “
