Flying in WoW Shadowlands: What you have to keep in mind
In order to take off in the Shadowlands, you have to keep a few things in mind, because you can’t spread your wings everywhere. On the other hand, unlocking has become much easier compared to Legion and Battle for Azeroth.
When can I fly in Shadowlands?
In Shadowlands, you don’t need a certain fame level to be able to swing on your flight mounts. Instead, you will need to play through your respective pact’s campaign in 9.1 to unlock the flying ability. You’ll also get a pact-specific flight mount as a reward on top of that.
What about second characters? The same system applies as in Battle for Azeroth: You unlock the flight ability account-wide. Your Twinks can also take off from level 50, as soon as you have unlocked the flight ability with a character.
Can I fly anywhere in Shadowlands?
You cannot cross the borders of Shadowlands with your flight mount. This is partly for technical reasons, and partly because the areas in the lore are very far apart, and according to game director Ion Hazzikostas, it would take 30 or 40 minutes to get to the next zone that way. Therefore, you will have to continue to rely on the portals in Oribos and the associated flying worms.
Can I fly in the maw?
Flying is only allowed in the four areas of the pacts. In Oibos and in the Maw, you will still have to travel on foot – the same applies to the new area Korthia, which is also located in the Maw.
