Whoever wants to play WoW Classic and Burning Crusade with the same character has to pay extra. However, Blizzard has now significantly eased the prices.
Update from 14 May 2021: After harsh criticism from the community, Blizzard reacts and massively lowers the prices for cloning characters.
In the official Blizzard forum, community manager Kaivax has spoken out and also gives reasons for the initially high price:
“This service – providing a player with a second copy of a character in another game – is new to us. Our initial concept for the value of this service was largely based on how we price other optional items and services. “
According to Kaivax’s statement, players on the Classic Era Realm should be able to rely on guilds and other players. Whether this is the only reason for the initial high price remains unclear. After feedback from the community, Blizzard has decided to lower the price in order to achieve its own goals for the new service.
Kaivax says about this:
“However, in the last week we have received a lot of feedback from the community and therefore decided to lower the price. A lower price will likely still meet our goals with the new service while allowing many more players to play characters on both Classic Era and Burning Crusade Classic Realms. “
Cloning will be almost 60 percent cheaper: Originally, Blizzard charged 35 euros for cloning a character. Now the price has been reduced to 15 euros. The new price will soon be visible in WoW’s ingame shop.
Original message: Blizzard has finally announced the release date for World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic: On 2 June 2021 at 0am German time, the Dark Portal will open and players will once again be able to visit Outland.
At the same time, the publisher announced the prices for additional services such as character level boosts – which are quite high, to the annoyance of many fans.
Harsh prices for level boosts and character clones
Actually, Burning Crusade is a free expansion for WoW Classic, which is included in every regular WoW subscription. Active players who have reached at least level 58 on one of their heroes can seamlessly continue in Burning Crusade.
However, those who want to play the new content with a new character at release will have to dig deep into their pockets or invest a lot of time. All those who have not yet played WoW Classic, but would like to experience Burning Crusade again, face the same problem.
It can get expensive: The Dark Portal Pass allows you to boost a character directly to level 58. However, it costs a hefty 40 euros and is also not applicable to the new races Blood Elves and Draenei.
Also quite expensive: If you want to play with your hero in WoW Classic as well as in Burning Crusade, you have to clone your character. But even for this you have to pay 35 euros. If you don’t use this service, you have to decide whether you want to stay in Classic or play Burning Crusade.
Anger about expensive character services
For many WoW fans the prices are clearly too high, as many comments on Reddit make clear.
For example, Magmoug writes:
“You can get the hell out of here with the $35 it costs to keep a copy of our character on Classic servers. It’s such a shameless rip-off for a service that should be included and free with the release of BC Classic. “
Metaliklol sees WoW Classic’s future threatened by pricing:
“The $35 per character copy is the real problem. This will kill the Classic Vanilla population. Absolutely insane price. “
The price of the Deluxe Edition, which includes a level boost as well as some cosmetic items like a mount, is also harshly criticised by Kanipsu:
“Fuck 70 euros for a Deluxe Edition. For Shadowlands you got a game with it. Now it’s 70 euros for a bunch of cosmetics. That’s greedy crap.”
