The consecrated wizards protect their allies with strong shields and heal their wounds.
The priest is the only class in World of Warcraft that has two healing specializations. One of them, the Discipline Priest, is explained in this guide. Alternatively, you can use the Holy Priest or play with the Shadow Priest as a damage dealer.
The most important changes
Your party boost Power Word: Soul Strength now only gives 5% more stamina instead of 10%. Mind Blast, Mind Soothing, Soul of Power, Shadow Word: Death, Power Word: Shield, and Shadow Word: Pain abilities are now available to all Priests, regardless of their specialization.
Shadow Word: Death does 150% more damage to targets that have less than 20% health. Fade now also reduces the distance from which enemies attack you. Mind Blast now gives you an option for a strong damage spike that heals very well at the same time via Apology, at a moderate mana cost.
Euphoria now places a Power Word: Shield on the target immediately upon activation. For the next eight seconds, Power Word: Shield absorbs an additional 200% damage and can be cast on targets affected by Weakened Soul. The level 40 talent Shadow Alliance has been revised. It heals the target and four injured allies within 30 yards.
In addition, your Shadow spells deal 25% more damage and healing for nine seconds, but you cannot use Holy spells. At level 50, Spirit Shroud replaces the Shining Barrier talent. Spirit Shroud causes Atonement, Power Word: Glory, and Repentance to cause absorption shields equal to 100% of healing for ten seconds instead of healing.
How to play the Discipline Priest
Your attribute priority as a Discipline Priest looks like this:
- Intelligence
- Speed
- Critical hit chance
- Versatility
- Mastery
Stage | Talent | Description |
---|---|---|
15 | Twist of Fate | When you heal a target that has less than 35% health, your damage dealt and healing caused are increased by 20% for ten seconds. |
25 | Body and Soul | Word of Power: Shield and Leap of Faith increase your target’s movement speed by 40% for three seconds. |
30 | Power Word: Solace | Shatter an enemy with Celestial Power, dealing 1,015 Holy damage and restoring 1% of your maximum mana. |
35 | Shining Force | Creates an explosion of light around an allied target, knocking back nearby enemies and reducing their movement speed by 70% for three seconds. |
40 | Sins of the Many | Increases your damage by up to 12%. Decreased for each ally affected by your apology. |
45 | Purge the Wicked | Purify the target with fire, dealing 314 fire damage and an additional 1,860 fire damage over 20 seconds. If you cast Atonement on the target, the effect spreads to another nearby enemy. Replaces Shadow Word: Pain. |
50 | Lenience | Apology reduces the damage taken by 3%. |
The Discipline Priest is able to heal his allies by damaging enemies. To do this, however, you must first cast the passive effect Apology on your fellow warriors. You can do this by casting Power Word: Shield, Shadow Heal, and Power Word: Shine.
Then cast Purification of Evil on the target and keep the DoT of it on the target. Use Thought Strike, Power Word: Solace, and Atonement whenever available. As a filler, when all else is unavailable, rely on Holy Torment.
For high damage spikes, support your tank with Pain Suppression. For high group damage, save Euphoria and Power Word: Barrier. When the going gets tough for yourself, fall back on Desperate Prayer.
