The melee fighter among the shamans unleashes a hail of blows on his opponents and is supported by totems and spirit wolves.
The Amplifier Shaman relies on melee combat and thus deals out powerful damage. In raids and dungeons, he takes on a damage role just like the Elemental Shaman. If you prefer healing, you should go for the Restoration Shaman.
The most important changes
Chain Healing, Healing River Totem, Flame Shock, Frost Shock, and the former Lightning Bolt Shield talent are now available to all shamans. The Rock Biter ability has been removed. Your Maelstrom resource and associated bar are no longer present.
In the Shadowlands, the Weapon of Maelstrom passive ability causes you to have a 20% reduction in casting time per stack for your next heal or damage spell.
It also increases the healing or damage of your next spell by 20% per stack. Ten stacks of these are collectible, and a maximum of five can be used up at a time.
Support your party with the Totem of Wind Wrath, which gives allies within 30 yards a 20% chance to strike again with automatic attacks.
Your wild spirits grant one stack of Weapon of Maelstrom immediately upon activation and five more stacks as you progress. The Lightning Bolt Shield has a 50% chance to grant a stack of Weapon of Maelstrom when the shield deals damage.
If your Chain Lightning Strike hits more than one target, each target hit increases the damage of your next use of Raging Lightning by 20%. Many talents have been reworked. New at level 25 is Ice Blast. Ice Blast hits your target with frost damage and temporarily reduces their movement speed by 50%. In addition, successful uses of Ice Blast complete the cooldowns of Flame Shock and Frost Shock.
How to play the Amplifier Shaman
The priority of your attributes should look like this for the Amplifier Shaman:
- Agility
- Speed
- Critical hit chance
- Versatility
- Mastery
Apply the enchantment Weapon of Wind Wrath to your main weapon and Weapon of Flame Tongue to your shield hand weapon. Remember to renew them after one hour has passed. Always activate your wild spirits when they are not affected by cooldown.
Set your Totem of Wind Wrath. Use Frost Shock when stacks of Hailstorm are present. If you have eight or more stacks of Maelstrom weapons, use them up with Lightning Strike against single targets or Chain Lightning Strike against multiple targets.
Stage | Talent | Description |
---|---|---|
15 | Lashing Flames | Lava Whip increases damage from Flame Shock to the same target by 100% for 20 seconds. |
25 | Stormflurry | Storm Strike has a 25% chance to hit the target one more time, dealing 40% of normal damage. This effect can be retriggered by itself. |
30 | Spirit Wolf | While transformed into a Ghost Wolf, every second your movement speed and damage reduction is increased by 5%. Stackable up to four times. |
35 | Hailstorm | Your next use of Frost Shock deals 15% more damage per stack of Weapon of Maelstrom consumed and hits one additional target per stack consumed. |
40 | Nature’s Guardian | When your health drops below 35%, you are instantly healed by 20% of your maximum health. This effect can only occur once every 45 seconds. |
45 | Sundering | Shatter the earth in front of you in a straight line with your main hand weapon, dealing 140% of your attack power as flame damage to hit enemies and incapacitating them for 2 seconds. |
50 | Elemental Spirits | Reduce the cooldown of Wild Spirit by 30 seconds and enchant your Wild Spirits with Fire, Frost, or Lightning, which boosts your abilities. |
Always use Storm Strike as soon as the ability is available, especially when Stormbringer is active, as Storm Hail will deal more damage, not trigger a cooldown, and cost 100% less Maelstrom. Cast Flame Shock on the target and keep your Shock spells on cooldown.
As fillers, use Lava Whip and Raging Lightning. When all abilities cooldown and you have at least five stacks of Maelstrom weapons, use Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning Bolt. Don’t forget to use your massive Heroism/Frenzy cooldown at crucial times, in consultation with your party.
